Summer is even better with glass!

From 10 am to 4 pm Members Ann Cavanaugh and Kevin Kanyo invite you to come stroll the beautiful gardens of Ann Cavanaugh to find that perfect piece from 10 PNW artists. The gardens will feature wood, ceramic, mixed media, metal, stone, and of course glass creations.

Join us to hear how different glass artists pack and ship their glass safely. This will be especially timely with the holiday season approaching. We will also be discussing different ways members label their art with care tags, price tags and all those other inclusions that make you seem more professional. Come learn and share your own techniques.

This will also be our Annual Meeting for election of officers. The Zoom link and more information will be provided on the event listing as we get closer.

Portland Waterjet will be our host. This will be a live event AND a Zoom for members outside the Portland area.

Contact the VPs, Barb Kienle and Carlyne Lynch, to submit questions for our panel meeting.

We will be going to Portland Water Jet (one block from Bullseye Glass) in Portland. The address is 3383 SE 21st Street, Portland, Oregon. They are closed on Sunday and will open JUST for the Guild’s meeting!

Waterjet cutting directs a high-pressure jet of water and abrasive to cut materials and in our case glass. This process offers a cost-effective solution to repetitive and high-volume production.

Guild member Carlyne Lynch has drawn seven design ornaments or suncatchers that would be difficult to cut symmetrically. These seven designs with holes included can be ordered by the sheet. You can order a sheet or split one with another member before and after our visit. Now is a perfect time to start holiday items. Please do not ask Portland WaterJet to split your order! Do the split order through the guild and Carlyne, she will arrange with another member to split.

Process: Call and pay for your glass at Bullseye and leave it with your name on it for WaterJet to pick up. Call and place your order with Portland WaterJet (202-476-9939) and let them know you have glass waiting. Ask for the ornament package and arrange with them for estimated times. Below is a 24″ X 24″ Tekta design sheet. The cost for waterjet cutting the design sheet below on 24×24 inch Tekta is $107, plus the glass itself. 

We encourage you to attend the meeting to learn more about the waterjet process, even if you are not ready to have any glass cut at this time. Log in and find the Zoom link on the event page or request it

July 24-26 Bellevue Arts Fair, Bellevue, WA: This long-running art fair includes 3 members who were selected by a rigorous jury process to participate. Check out their booths and say hello if you are in the area next weekend.

August 1 Mid-Willamette Valley Glass Art Show & Sale, Independence, OR: Guild Sponsor Maganda Glass is filling their spacious parking lot with artist’s booths for this first-ever event. Stop by and visit with the participating artists and Maganda staff.

August 8 Glass Play Day, Seattle, WA: Karen Seymour is once again opening her studio to local glass artists to experiment with glass techniques. Come learn, share, and break glass together.

August 15: Guild Picnic, Fairview, OR: If you are in the Portland area, spend a fun afternoon connecting with fellow glass artists over great food and conversation at Margie Rieff’s home. Everyone is welcome.

August 15-16 Fresh Paint Festival, Everett, WA: Visit with Guild member Mel Williams and explore the Schack Art Center’s biggest summer festival.
