Taking classes in the summer is a great way to meet new people who share your passion for glass and learn new skills at the same time. Be sure to register in advance so you don’t find the class full or canceled. Here are a just a sampling of members offering classes this summer. This last month of the year offers a chance to get together with fellow PNW Glass Guild members for in-person glass discussions and optional gift exchanges. Dec 26 – Jan 27th in Lake Oswego OR member Karen Azinger’s Steel Queen novel and the 6 other books in her Silk and Steel series are the theme of an exhibit of her own and several other members’ glass creations (Diane Muhly, Ann Cavanaugh, Carlyne Lynch, Linda Gerrard, Megan Cavanaugh, Greta Schneider, Dijenaire Frazer, Juliet Peterson Spaulding, Karen Azinger and Rick Holmes). There will be an artists’ reception on Monday January 13th

January 2025 Mark your new calendar now:

13 Board Meeting Monday 7 pm via Zoom. Come discuss what the Guild will do in the new year to add more value to being a member.

26 General meeting Sunday 3:30 pm via Zoom: Putting photos of your work on the website. Basic glass photography tips followed by how to get the image off your cell phone and onto a website with a bit of photo-editing thrown in too. Our Members’ Gallery will be the specific example but the tips are going to be widely applicable. Bring your own examples and questions.

Slumping, Draping, Kiln Casting etc.

This meeting is May 7, at 3:30 pm .

What is your most unusual shaping tool? What’s the best firing schedule to use for it? What is Silkymat and how do you use it? What can you use your fired Thinfire for? This is a show and tell of things you’ve tried that worked and those that didn’t. Please contact VP Rachel Dollar to get in the speaker line up (it makes things run so much smoother to know who to call on next). Both booths are 10’x10′: one has a corner ($475 + commission) and one is in-line, i.e. no corner ($400 + commission). Show and sell your work to the anticipated thousands of attendees of this free annual event April 19-21 in Portland. Last year’s attendance was just over 13,000 and the GOTG publicity team estimates it may even reach 30,000 this year based on the huge increase in response they are already getting. You must be a current PNW Glass Guild member and sign up for your booth before March 1st or the space will be re-allocated. See the registration page for details.

Don’t miss the opportunity to sell your art at the 2023 Portland Rose Festival. The Guild has been given a unique opportunity to have our members participate in this year’s Maker’s Market.
