Via Zoom: What have you learned about teaching glass?

Have you noticed something in classes you’ve given or taken that those who teach glass should know about? Is there something students should know about evaluating a class? Come share your experiences.

You don’t have to be a Guild member to join the discussion.

You’ll also be able to ask questions about applying for a booth at Gathering of the Guilds.

Let’s See Your Pretty Glass Flowers!

posted in: Other News | 0

We thought for our upcoming March newsletter we’d do something fun and colorful to celebrate Spring by showing off the many ways we make glass flowers! We’d like as many members of the guild as possible to send us a few photos of flowers you have done in glass with a VERY SHORT description of the technique or process used.

It would be fun to see flowers from cold glass techniques (mosaic and applique), hot glass pieces (blown, torchwork), and of course there are SO many ways to create with kiln work: using sheet and frit, enamels, molds, kiln casting, and kiln forming! *If you used a particular ebook, webinar or instructor as an inspiration feel free to mention where you learned a technique. This might also give you some good ideas for Mother’s Day presents! The can be realistic, abstract or imagined. Please email photos and info to Greta Schneider and please add a subject line that says: GLASS FLOWERS. If I could get them by March 1st that would be great. Thanks! -Greta

Gathering of the Guilds May 6-8, Portland

l) Save the date: the annual Gathering of The Guilds show is currently planned to be in-person May 6th – 8th, 2022, at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland OR. As of now masks and showing proof of vaccination or negative Covid test at the door will be required. We’ll let you know if that changes.

2) Details of how to apply for booths etc. are available here.

3) As always we’ll need volunteers to make this work: Fill out the volunteer form to let us know how you want to join the fun and help us pull off another great glass event.

4) Make a new glass friend: we’re looking for Portlanders to host out of town glass artists and volunteers for Gathering of the Guilds so they don’t have to add a hotel to the cost of doing or helping with the show. If you can host a glass guest for the 4 or 5 days of Gathering of the Guilds (May 4-8), please fill out the form https://airtable.com/shr9DeBNTehO3cj5D
