Tips for Doing a Show

Note this is a MONDAY evening: It was moved from the usual Sunday afternoon because many Seattle members are participating in the April 23-24 ArtInBloomSeattle.com studio tour.

As we go back to in-person events there will hopefully be more in-person art shows, including the May 6-8 Gathering of the Guilds. Have you got any tips to share about both selling your work at shows and surviving and enjoying the experience? Please contact Rachel Dollar to help her put together a speaker order or just show up and join the discussion. You don’t have to be a member to come to our General Meetings.

Please see the event listing for the Zoom link and late-breaking info

Show off your muscles to help GotG

We really need 5-6 strong volunteers to donate their time on Wednesday May 4th from 1:30 to 2 pm in Hall A of the Oregon Convention Center to help us get the pedestals and things from the storage shed and set up the showcase area at Gathering of the Guilds. Then if you could come back on Sunday May 8th at 4 pm for maybe two hours to help take the display down and take the stuff back to the storage shed, that would be wonderful (there are less energetic volunteer slots during the show if you can spare a couple of hours) Contact Mitzi Kugler

Or fill out the volunteer form

Ask Your Mom

There’s a special time on May 8th (yes, Mother’s Day) from 10 am to noon at the Gathering of the Guilds when all vendors and visitors will be masked so that people can bring their mothers and anyone else who may want to take extra care. During that time there will be Mother’s Day specials by members of all 6 guilds featured throughout the show.

For the rest of the event masking is following CDC recommendations for Multnomah County at this time – “People may choose to wear a mask. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.”

The complete show schedule is:
Friday May 6th, 10am to 7pm
Saturday May 7th, 10am to 6pm
Sunday May 8th, 10am to 4pm (masking required from 10am to noon)

We look forward to seeing you at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.
See the event listing for more info.

On Yard Art

Our very seasonal theme is Yard Art. Everyone from blowers to fusers to stained glass artists can make something to decorate a yard but there are challenges: How do you support glass so it doesn’t break? Making pieces that can stand up to the weather can also be tricky. Come share your experiences and/or learn about tips on glues, stands, etc. See the event listing for more info.

You don’t have to be a Guild member to join the discussion.

Booth purchase deadline now March 31st

posted in: Other News | 0

The deadline for buying a booth at Gathering of the Guilds has been extended to March 31st, with no late fee. However March 31st is a firm date because we have to commit to the space or yield it to the other guilds.

For members who are new to selling their work the Group Booth for $125 is a great deal. Each participant gets half an 8′ table to display their glass for sale. Yes, you can go vertically. The table, lights, and ability to take credit cards are all included in the $125 (you will need to pay the credit card company fee on any sales, and you will owe a commission to the Guild as well). Participants take shifts and work a common till so you don’t even have to be present all the hours of all 3 days.

The prices for the 10×10 booths range from $400 to $475 depending on their location, and the 5×10 booth prices range from $250 to $350 depending on location. Note that all sales are subject to a variable commission rate depending on the number of volunteer hours worked by the artist or by anyone who works volunteer hours on behalf of the artist.

For more information on buying a booth, please go to the application information page. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Lesley Kelly or Carlyne Lynch.

Also note the Covid-19 policy for the show has been revised:

• We are following CDC recommendations for Multnomah County at this time – “People may choose to wear a mask. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.”
• Some of our artists are vulnerable and will require you to wear a mask in their booth; please be prepared to wear one.
• A mask mandate will be in effect on Sunday morning, May 8th from 10am – 12am for both artists and attendees, providing our high-risk and immunocompromised attendees a safer experience.
