3 Guild Picnics This Summer

Please come meet the new PNWGG board and help us to set the course of the guild for the next year. See the event listing in the website in the calendar of events.

11 am until around 2 pm at Karen Seymour’s house near the zoo in Seattle (5415 Greenwood Ave N). Any one is welcome, member or not. Come discuss glass, what the Guild could do that would be helpful to your glass journey, and especially the upcoming Vendor Fair May 11.

If you have a piece to show off or ask questions about, we’d love to see it. Also bring a dish to feed about 8. Please contact Karen Seymour if you plan to attend.

And of course the ongoing registration for Gathering of the Guilds booths: if you buy your booth and get your photos in by tonight’s publicity deadline (Jan 31st) your art has a good chance of being seen all over Portland in the next 3 months as part of the big promotion planned by the GOTG organization. The show will be April 28-30.

Don’t miss the upcoming Guild General Meeting on Sunday, May 17th at 3:30 pm. Guild member Milo Snyder will share his unique approach to cast glass, and how to use digital fabrication and casting techniques to create complex glass forms that shape light and atmosphere. The meeting is on Zoom, so it’s easy to join us from the comfort of your own home.

After fifteen incredible years of building, teaching, and growing with the glass community, I
have decided that it is time for me to move on to my next chapter. With a mix of pride and
nostalgia, I am reaching out to share that Melt Glass Art Supply is officially for sale.
As many of you know, Melt is more than just a retail space; it is a hub for education and a
home for artists. Over the last decade and a half, I have poured my heart into creating a
space where creativity thrives and high-quality supplies are accessible.

What I am looking for:
My primary goal is to find a successor who understands the value of the community we’ve
built. I am looking for a buyer who is ready to step into this role within the next year—
someone with the passion to maintain the high standard of service my customers expect
and the vision to lead the business into its next decade.

Oct. 4-5 Margie’s Fall Market, Aurora OR (a bit south of Portland) where the Guild is coordinating several indoor booths. Stop by this Friday and Saturday to say hi to and buy from members Kory Dollar,Shawna Hovey, Lesley Kelly, Lyn Kennison, Barb Kienle, Carlyne Lynch, Rose and Gerald McBride, Daryle Ryder, as well as nearly 50 other vendors. Oct. 4-6 Local 14 Art Show in Portland OR members Greta Schneider, Mitzi Kugler and Cheryl Chapman are showing and selling their work in this well regarded juried art show

Oct 5 Issaquah Salmon Days, Issaquah WA (SE of Seattle) member Linda Schnell will be selling her work along with lots of other juried artists in the 55th annual celebration of the salmon returning

Oct 17-20 Refract is the annual 4 day celebration of Seattle area glass that ranges from Tacoma to Everett and from live glass blowing to special museum exhibits to the Pilchuck Gala Auction. The Guild sponsored Glass And Decor Studio Tour and Sale, in north Seattle on Sat & Sun Oct.19-20, is counted as just one of the nearly 50 different Refract venues. Stop by the 6 studios on the tour and talk glass with members Lael Bennett, Angie Heinrich, Stephanie Johnston, Debbie Marchione, Karen Seymour, David Smith, and Sandy Spear.

Oct 19-20 on the Washington County Studio Tour members Linda Gerrard and Rosalind Cooper will open their Beaverton OR studios (SW of Portland) so you can see where they work their magic and buy their resulting glass art.

Oct. 27 General Meeting via Zoom: voting for 2025 officers (all are willing to serve a second term so it should be short) followed by a discussion of packing, shipping, hang tags and all those little details that can help raise the level of your glass professionalism just in time for holiday sales.
